From first deposit to final payment and everything in between — here are the booking questions Premier Travelers clients ask most often, answered plainly.
When should I book a cruise?
For peak seasons — summer Alaska, Christmas Caribbean, Mediterranean June–September — book 9–12 months out for the best cabin selection and fares. For Europe and river cruises, 12–18 months is ideal. Last-minute deals exist but typically only on guarantee cabins and less popular dates.
How much is a cruise deposit?
Deposits vary by cruise line and sailing — typically $100–$500 per person for standard sailings and $500–$1,000+ per person for suites or luxury lines. Some sailings require a non-refundable deposit from day one; others allow refundable deposits until final payment.
When is final payment due?
Most cruise lines require final payment 60–90 days before departure for standard sailings and up to 120–150 days for holiday sailings and luxury lines. Missing the final payment deadline can result in cancellation and loss of your deposit.
Can I cancel my cruise?
Yes — cruise lines allow cancellation with varying refund schedules. Cancellations 76+ days before sailing typically receive a full refund; cancellations 46–75 days before receive 50% refund; cancellations within 45 days receive no refund. Travel insurance covers cancellation for covered reasons.
