The exact items experienced cruisers never sail without — and the ones first-timers forget
Every experienced cruiser has a packing list refined over dozens of sailings — and a story about the one thing they forgot on their first cruise. This checklist distills everything we tell clients before every sailing, organized by priority so nothing essential gets left behind.
Your passport, boarding documents, and any required visas should never go in checked or main luggage — carry them on your person or in a day bag. Print or download your set-sail pass and boarding group assignment before leaving home, and bring a printed copy of your travel insurance policy and emergency contact numbers.
Your checked luggage often will not arrive at your cabin until mid-afternoon. Pack swimwear, a change of clothes, medications, phone chargers, and anything you'll want for the first few hours aboard directly in your carry-on so you can head straight to the pool deck.
Surge protectors, irons, candles, and multi-plug extension cords are confiscated by ship security. Avoid overpacking formal wear — most mainstream sailings require only one or two elegant-evening outfits for the entire week.
